Instituto Vitória Humana
Supporting Vulnerable Children Through Protection, Care, and Education
About Instituto Vitória Humana
Founded in 2007, Instituto Vitória Humana (IVH) is a non-profit organization located in Vitória de Santo Antão, Pernambuco, Brazil, dedicated to protecting the rights and well-being of vulnerable children and teenagers.
The organization provides temporary residential care and child protection services (acolhimento institucional) for children and adolescents who have been removed from their family homes by court order due to circumstances that threaten their safety or well-being.
More than simply providing shelter, IVH offers a safe and supportive environment where children receive essential care, emotional support, educational guidance, and opportunities for healthy development.
A multidisciplinary team of childcare professionals, psychologists, social workers, and educators works to support each child's individual needs.
Whenever possible and safe, the organization's priority is to help children reunite with their biological or extended families. When reunification is not possible, it supports the legal process of finding alternative permanent family arrangements, including adoption.
Since its founding, IVH has provided care and protection to 682 children and adolescents as of October 2025.
Generous Hearts' Role – Supporting Literacy and Education
As part of our commitment to education and child development, Generous Hearts helps fund two teachers who work with children and teenagers receiving care through Instituto Vitória Humana.
These teachers provide foundational literacy education, focusing on reading, writing, and basic language skills.
For children who have experienced family separation, instability, or interruptions to their education, developing these skills can be particularly meaningful.
Literacy helps young people participate more confidently in school, communicate effectively, and develop the foundations needed for continued education and future employment.
Our Financial Commitment
Generous Hearts contributes R$1,000 per month to support two literacy teachers, representing an annual commitment of R$12,000.
This ongoing support helps IVH provide educational assistance to children and teenagers during their time in residential care.
For Canadian donors, this demonstrates how a relatively modest recurring contribution can help maintain access to foundational education for vulnerable young people.
Why This Partnership Matters
Instituto Vitória Humana provides the protection, care, and stability these children need during difficult circumstances.
Generous Hearts contributes to their educational development by supporting the teachers who help them build essential literacy skills.
Together, these efforts address two important needs: a safe environment today and stronger educational opportunities for tomorrow.
Our support is an investment in each child's ability to learn, grow, and pursue a more independent future.
Because every child deserves not only a safe place to live, but also the opportunity to learn and thrive.
Building Strong Foundations. Creating Better Futures.
Volunteer-led. Community-driven.
